New Image Collections Added to Historic Pittsburgh

Two new image collections were recently added to Historic Pittsburgh: the Fuchs Family Photographs and the Richard E. Rauh Photographs.

The Fuchs Family Photographs, consisting of 25 images, primarily depict cadets from St. Joseph’s Junior Military School as well as members of the Fuchs family (see a prior post for more information on the collection).

The Richard E. Rauh Photographs include images that document Bertha Rauh’s work to transform Mayview Hospital, then known as the Pittsburgh City Home and Hospital, into a modern psychiatric hospital. Rauh, who was the first woman in the United States to serve in a mayoral cabinet, was appointed Director of Charities (later renamed the Pittsburgh Department of Public Welfare) by Mayor William Magee in 1922.
